As Energy Director at Progressive Energy Group, Cassandra Garcia works directly with suppliers and agents to provide low-cost energy supplier options for potential and returning customers, both natural gas and electric.
In addition to preparing sales audits for their agents to present, she also creates and processes contracts, keeps track of current customers’ renewal dates, audits files and paperwork for potential and returning customers, and answers any sales questions customers may have while working directly with agents on potential sales.
How did you get started in the energy industry?
I began my working career in retail management, but I wanted to have a more consistent schedule, and began looking elsewhere. I was connected to my company through a family member and have been here for eight years now!

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!
I was born with two holes in my heart and had heart surgery when I was six months old at Rush Hospital in Chicago to repair them. At that time, Rush was the only hospital in Illinois that could do that kind of surgery, and I was only the second baby to have had it done there.
Doctor says it’s ticking just fine, now!

Read everything and ask a lot of questions!
The professional/personal value of your TEPA membership:
Professionally, TEPA has been an incredibly valuable asset to learning about the changes that are currently going on within the industry. The conferences that I have attended, and the webinars I have joined, have taught me a great deal of the current and future trends, how to build stronger relationships with our customers and the suppliers we work with, and to provide an insight into what could possibly be happening in the future.
Personally, it’s been helpful to put faces to names of supplier reps I work with. A lot of the time, our suppliers are located in different states, and TEPA has been a great networking opportunity and relationship builder with the suppliers reps we work with, including Direct Energy, MC Squared Energy, MP2 Energy and Dynegy Energy.
