Demorian Linton

Demorian Linton is the Founder of Inertia Resources, a retail energy broker that currently services over 3,000 businesses across of Texas, Canada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

How did you get started in the energy industry?
I was originally born in East. St. Louis, Illinois and I grew up in Katy, Texas. I started in the energy industry in 2003, acquiring residential accounts and growing teams on the indirect side with TXU. Over a 7 year period, our teams in Texas alone acquired over 400,000 meters across all TDSP’s in the state of Texas.

Looking to expand and wanting to learn more about markets outside of Texas, I pursued more supplier relationships to grow our company successfully outside of Texas to Canada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

During that time, I started to learn more and more about the commercial side of our industry, so I decided to put all my energy into that side of our business. After years of learning from some of the best minds the business, I created Inertia Resources in 2018. We have now acquired over 3000 businesses in our company’s brief history and we are looking to grow our portfolio every day.

In a new venture, releasing next month, we are excited to announce launch the industry’s newest broker portal….SweetSpots.

SweetSpots will allow brokers to use a very simple CRM to grow their teams, price, expand their outreach, marketing, and online presence to become more legitimate, organized, and keep their books more secure. We have partnered with the top suppliers in the industry and we are excited about it’s launch in the next couple of weeks.

How long have you been a TEPA member?
2.5 years

Professional/personal bucket list item:
My professional goal would be to have a physical office space in every deregulated state, functioning and profitable. I believe that physical interactions with all of your customers are needed to build stability and further business relationships. Being there to interact, educate, and build a solid relationship with anyone in your portfolio is needed, especially in today’s times. One personal goal next year would be to learn how to sail. I wouldn’t get on a boat with me anytime before that for safety reasons of course.

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!
I’ve been writing a fictional novel for 4 years that may almost be finished.

Favorite or most memorable part of your career:
Establishing Inertia Resources in March of 2018 by far was my most memorable accomplishment. I love what we have done so far and I look forward to our future.

Best advice for someone new to our industry:
I would tell anyone in the energy industry to continue to try and improve as much as you can every day. Sometimes people believe “years in the business,” directly equates to knowledge, stability, and experience. Surround yourself with like-minded people that have your best interests at heart, and always leave any path you cross better than it was before you got there.

Pick one meal for the rest of your life:
I am in Boston around 70% of the time, so anything in the North End (Italian) at any time of the day. If you’re ever around, let me know.

The professional/personal value of your TEPA membership:
TEPA has allowed me to meet and interact with my peers to gain knowledge and have a better understanding on where our field is going. I understand that our industry is always changing. Being in front of that change and not behind it is key to running an organization and growing it efficiently. The conferences, conference calls, emails, and etc. help myself and everyone stay current on what’s going on and what may be coming next on the horizon.

TEPA also has also assisted in our company building better relationships with our counterparts and suppliers. I would suggest anyone in our field that would like to be relevant and join TEPA to stay current on topics and events that directly affect your way of life. They do a great job of keeping us informed on things going on in the market and help make sure that we are represented properly at all the tables in our industry that matter.
