As the V.P. of Sales at Enerex, Jason Beck brings over a decade of experience growing customer bases for startups to Fortune 500 companies within deregulated energy.
How did you get started in the energy industry?
Retail Energy is the only industry I’ve ever known! In 2006, after owning my own company for a year, I was offered two temp-to-hire positions, both with Fortune 500 companies. One with Honeywell – marketing associate for the radiant floor heating division. One with Constellation New Energy – marketing associate to help share the reasons why deregulated energy in Jan 2007 was beneficial for customers.
It seemed like a pretty easy decision when 100% of people use electricity and only 2% of people would need radiant floor heating. One of my first mentors in the industry was the late great Dr. Phil O’Connor who was the ICC Chairman who helped move forward the laws of Illinois telecom and energy deregulation. I loved being part of the initial deregulation of Illinois and Pennsylvania. Retail Energy can really deliver huge value to end-use customers!

What TEPA committee have you joined and when did you become a member?
I joined the Technology Committee in 2020 as Committee Chair.
What inspired you to join TEPA’s Technology Committee?
I truly believe that technology is a key driver in solving the issues that plague our industry: trust, security, connectivity, and key data sharing. Technology is also the driver of future progress in how we can serve our end-use customers with new products and services. This is what inspired me to get involved with this committee (and some great encouragement from TEPA leaders – you know who you are!)
What is a goal(s) would you like to see the Technology Committee achieve?
- Share ideas for solving key industry problems
- Vet emerging technologies from a broker & supplier view
- Share emerging technologies / non-commodity energy services with all TEPA members

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!
I used to be a pretty good bowler! With 2-300’s and 2-299’s (choke!) to my name.
Favorite or most memorable part of your career:
When Enerex (fka Powermatrix) won the TEPA Affiliate of the Year award for 2019-2020. It was a surprise, voted on by peers, and validated this huge risk I took moving from the supplier side to the vendor/service side of Retail Energy.
Best advice for someone new to our industry:
ASK QUESTIONS! This industry has a huge amount of detail. You must have a passion for learning. Be passionate about identifying what you don’t know and then find a mentor that is willing to answer your questions!
Pick one meal for the rest of your life:
LOL – NO! Variety is the spice of life. I live to EAT not eat to live. However, Greek salads with Gyro and Tzatziki – can’t live without.
The professional/personal value of your TEPA membership:
I was not involved in, nor did I fully understand, the breadth of the Retail Energy Broker market until joining TEPA in 2015 through my time with Source Power & Gas. One of my first actions was to survey TEPA broker members on what they were looking for to sign up more SMB with SPG.
The TEPA membership was incredibly approachable and willing to share their time and guidance. TEPA members are also bought into ideas that help drive the overall industry forward, versus ideas that just drive their brokerage firm forward. For anyone who is serious about Retail Energy – and serious about establishing deep relationships between brokers-vendors-suppliers that help get business done – you need to be a TEPA member.
