TEPA Hosts Energy Leaders from Across the Country During 20th Anniversary National Conference in Austin, Announces TEPA Award Winners, New TEPA Board President

TEPA 20th ConferenceHOUSTON – Nov. 13, 2025 – The Energy Professionals Association (TEPA) held its 20th Anniversary National TEPA Conference in Austin, Texas, on November 3-5, 2025, at the Austin Marriott Downtown, in Austin, Texas. This year’s 3-day anniversary conference welcomed a record number of energy professionals from across the country including Dan Simmons, former Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; Thomas Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research (IER) and its advocacy arm, the American Energy Alliance (AEA); and Travis Fisher, Director of Energy & Environmental Policy Studies, CATO Institute.

On Wednesday, Greg Bechert, Managing Partner at Scioto Energy and Principal Energy Markets at Environ, was announced as the incoming 2026 Board President. Since 2008, he has helped build Scioto Energy into one of Ohio’s most respected independent energy brokerages. Under his leadership, Scioto earned a reputation for trusted client partnerships, innovative procurement strategies, and deep market insight. In 2022, he helped lead the efforts to merge Energy Professionals of Ohio (EPO) with TEPA.

“This year’s National TEPA Conference was a tremendous success, marking the milestone 20th anniversary for our organization,” said  Shannon McGriff, Executive Director of TEPA. “We welcomed a record number of guests and engaged in meaningful conversations that reinforced TEPA’s role as a trusted voice for competitive energy markets. Our members represent more than 80% of all retail energy transactions nationwide and consistently act in the best interest of the customers they serve.”

On Wednesday, McGriff announced the finalists and winners of the TEPA ABC of the Year, TEPA Supplier of the Year and TEPA Affiliate of the Year. The awards, which are presented annually during the conference, have become a coveted honor among retail energy businesses that meet TEPA’s standards of education and advocacy in the market.

The TEPA ABC of the Year recognizes the most promising and innovative TEPA ABC company in areas such as contract negotiations, ethical business practices and customer service. The 2025 TEPA ABC of the Year winner was awarded to 5. The TEPA ABC of the Year finalists included Broker Online Exchange, Scioto Energy, Tradition Energy and Pilot Energy.

The TEPA Supplier of the Year award recognizes the TEPA member company with the most comprehensive, innovative and strategic vision for competitive retail electricity and natural gas markets. It takes into consideration the company’s customer service reputation among its customers and employees. The 2025 TEPA Supplier of the Year was awarded to Constellation and SmartestEnergy US. This year’s TEPA Supplier of the Year finalists included ENGIE, Freepoint and NRG.

The TEPA Affiliate of the Year award recognizes companies that provide products and services that improve energy procurements processes and support competitive energy markets. The 2025 TEPA Affiliate of the Year is Amperon. Finalists in this category included Edge on Demand, ERCG, Enerex and Synota.
