Former U.S. Secretary of Energy and 47th Governor of Texas Rick Perry to be Keynote Speaker at Annual TEPA Conference

HOUSTON – October 11, 2022The Energy Professionals Association (TEPA) announced today that Rick Perry, former U.S. Secretary of Energy and the 47th Governor of Texas, will be the keynote speaker during the association’s 17th annual national conference, November 8-10, 2022, in Austin, Texas. Mr. Perry will share insights, opportunities and challenges facing today’s energy markets based on his experiences at highest state and federal levels.

“We’re truly honored to have former governor and U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry speak during the annual national TEPA Conference,” said Shannon McGriff, Executive Director of TEPA. “As an organization dedicated to upholding the integrity of the national retail energy market, he can offer our members a unique historical perspective of the politics that helped shape the energy market in Texas, the United States and ultimately the world.”

Perry served as the United States Secretary of Energy under U.S. President Donald J. Trump from March 2017 to December 2019. As the 14th Secretary of Energy, he led an agency tasked with overseeing the United States’ energy supply, nuclear defense capacity, and the 17 National Laboratories, home to many of the country’s leading scientists.

Prior to joining the Administration as Secretary of Energy, Perry served as the 47th Governor of Texas. As Governor of the Lone Star State, Perry championed principles that helped Texas become America’s economic engine. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having flown C-130 tactical airlift aircraft in Europe and the Middle East. He is deeply involved with supporting the active duty and veteran community.

“Some of the most experienced leaders in energy have presented during our national conference,” said McGriff. “In recent years we’ve heard from Brad Jones, Interim President of ERCOT; Pat Wood, Past Chairman of FERC and the Public Utility Commission of Texas; Jim Zolnerick, Bureau Chief Public Utilities Bureau at Illinois Commerce Commission; and Donna Nelson, former PUCT chairman. We look forward to hearing from Mr. Perry in November and believe his presentation will be of great value to all our members.”
